One week ago, lunch together at Whole Bowl:
Then, eating our mostly-vegetables dinner after our organic produce delivery, with some poor table manners!
We went for a rainy-day walk but we managed to squeeze it in between showers and stayed dry!
We went to OMSI and played in the Science Playground area for kids ages 6 and under:
They have a nursing room with a locking door for privacy – there were also moms breastfeeding out in the main area (while their older children were playing), but when the chaos out there got a little overwhelming (for both of us), I was really glad to have this quieter space:
This is in the infant area:
It’s like a giant lift-the-flap book!
Fun with blocks:
Ari is really a little young for OMSI, I discovered (also his nanny had told me that). All of the other babies there seemed to have an older sibling and they were just along for the ride, strapped on to their mothers. I wanted to run around like a little kid and try every single activity there right away, but that’s not baby speed. Ari’s more like, let me investigate this scrap of paper for the next 15 minutes. But he did really enjoy the water play area. He’s too short still to stand and play at the water activity tables, but I held him up to this whirlpool thing were you could drop balls into the water and watch them get sucked down the whirlpool, and he just loved holding a ball in the rushing water and occasionally letting it go.
My next day off was Saturday. I’d been wanting to check out this kid-friendly coffee and food place near us called Café au Play, so after having lunch with a friend we went there for coffee and Ari played with another baby – well, they just took toys away from each other over and over. This is the only picture I got – Ari had been standing up at the train tracks and he fell down right as I snapped the photo!
We went from there to the dog park:
And from there to the nursery, where Ari fell asleep…
…and we got some flowers, decorative grasses, and artichoke plants:
After that, we went to the pet store and gave Andrew his first bath in MONTHS, and Ari slept the whole time!
On Sunday we mostly did work around the house, which I will write more about later. Then we went out for ramen with A.’s parents.
Yesterday, Ari and I went to visit my parents at a conference my dad was attending at Skamania Lodge, an hour from us in the gorge. We drove there during Ari’s morning nap time and he obliged by sleeping all the way! Then we stayed overnight and drove back during today’s morning nap. It worked perfectly!
It was a beautiful, sunny day and we spent a while on the lawn with my mom and her good friend. Ari is still not a fan of grass on his feet!
We made portable shade for him with a blanket draped on the stroller. I also put baby sunblock on him for the first time. Actually his nanny has put it on him at least once.
He played peek-a-boo:
And showed off his tricks – “yay!”
And his new one…clapping!
The night before, A. and his parents and I had been trying to teach him to clap. He must have dreamed about it all night, because first thing when he woke up in the morning, he sat up and started clapping!
A.’s mom has been teaching him this “yay!” for a while, but he only recently started doing it himself:
Eventually, we retreated to the shade:
Then we got dressed for dinner and he spent some time with my dad:
Here we are at dinner – this is what it looks like when you’re a phone and Ari goes for you:
He passed out after dinner:
Then got a second wind and opened Easter presents from my grandma:
When we got back into town this morning, we went straight to the library half an hour early for Book Babies, because I’m sick of missing it because the room is at capacity when we get there! Ari looked at books in the children’s area before we went in.
Before Book Babies started – I’ve blurred people’s faces when I couldn’t crop them out:
Then we started with bubbles – there are bubbles in the air, in the air…there are bubbles in the air, in the air…there are bubbles in the air, there are bubbles everywhere, there are bubbles in the air, in the air…:
I had to just sit through a lot of the songs because Ari was off in the middle of the room! But he came back for the more active songs and especially enjoyed the ones involving being thrown in the air (except I don’t actually let go of him).
There was playtime with toys:
And the parachute! Come uuuunder my umbrella, umbrella, umbrella, come uuuuunder my umbrella, it’s starting to storm…:
